This small impoundment is beginning to take shape. The 3.5 acres is going to be great when in rice next year. Underground irrigation pipe runs to the impoundment and will provide water on demand. A slight grade falling to the tree line allows for furrow or flood irrigation techniques. This project is proof that size does not always matter when it comes to quality waterfowl habitat. The next step is getting vegetation established on the bare soil. Broadcasting small grains like japanese millet and flushing with water will provide quick ground cover. Looking forward to seeing the birds select this location when the cold winds are blowing.
